Meet Dr. Hurst
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
Dr. Hurst achieved American Board of Orthodontics Certification in 1987, a distinguished status earned by less than 18% of all orthodontists.
He holds membership in the American Association of Orthodontics and serves on their editorial review committee.
He received his dental degree from Indiana University and specialized in Orthodontics for two addtional years at Harvard University in Boston.
In 1971, Dr. Hurst was invited by the new LSU School of Dentistry to be a part of the original staff and developed the first orthodontic research program at LSU.
At LSU Dr. Hurst formed a special medical school committee to deal with facial deformities, especially those of cleft lip and palate.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
"My Special Teacher" awards given by Dr. Hurst to outstanding local teachers in St. Tammany Parish in honor of his parents who were both teachers.
Dr. Hurst and his staff present Dental Health Care programs to local schools.
Initial Funder of the Lake Pontchatrain Basin Foundation.
Benefactor- Local Youth Athletic programs, Youth Service Bureau, Art At The Park, Pride of St. Tammany, HLA Registry. St. Tammany Art Association, A Child's Wish, Host Hospice, Jr. Service League, Tammany Trace, Children Advocacy Center, and area schools' fund raising.
BOOK AUTHOR - Life's Fingerprint:
Dr. Hurst is the author of the book Life’s Fingerprint which
explains why all children in a family are different. It is based on information from thousands of families treated by Dr. Hurst.
He describes in detail the concept of Double Birth Order which makes the concept work in every family. Motivating teenagers is always a challenge but by using the birth order theory cooperation is not so difficult.
