Professional Education
- Dr. Hurst achieved American Board of Orthodontics Certification in 1987, a distinguished status earned by less than 18% of all orthodontists.
- He holds membership in the American Association
of Orthodontics and serves on their editorial review committee.
- He received his dental degree from Indiana University and specialized in Orthodontics for two addtional years at Harvard University in Boston.
- In 1971, Dr. Hurst was invited by the new LSU School of Dentistry to be a part of the original staff and developed the first orthodontic research program at LSU.
- At LSU Dr. Hurst formed a special medical school committee to deal with facial deformities, especially those of cleft lip and palate.
Community Activities
- "My Special Teacher" awards given by Dr.
Hurst to outstanding local teachers in St. Tammany Parish in honor of his parents who were both teachers.
- Dr. Hurst and his staff present Dental Health
Care programs to local schools.
